Without knowing more about your particular talents it is hard to answer this question.
If you are new to the field take on a couple of volunteer opportunities and document your success. You now have a portfolio of proof to back up your claims. Especially if you have letters of reference written from the people that you help without charge.
Of course, if you have such good SEO talents that people can see the difference in 15 days, then why not go it along at least on one project. Not only will this give you more experience, but you will be able to generate some side income if done right. Who knows, it could turn into an option that you do exclusively instead of working for anyone else at all.

You can post your services in forums and classified ads such as the source. Most people looking for such services will often go to these sites first.
